Stay away from disused waterworks and boggy ground. Leopard shrikes thrive in stagnant water. Though totally blind they are hypersensitive to changes in their environment through acoustic vibrations, using hollow claws and the hypersensitive spines along their backs as receivers through earth and air respectively . These nocturnal hunters will find a cool, damp space and rest by day - remaining totally motionless unless disturbed by passing prey. It's only redeeming factor is an almost total vacancy of any kind of attention-span; if encountered the only hope for escape is to remain completely still and silent until this easily distracted blind-striker has moved on. The Shrike's sabre-like tongue can penetrate sheet metal and protracts to over a meter beyond it's powerful beak.
